When we knitted the first South Vester, the plan was to create a Luddi garment that could be worn for special occasions, like Norwegian Constitution Day (May 17th) or Christmas. The vest was intended to pair nicely with a dress or a shirt. But after it was finished, we quickly realized that it’s just as often used as a cozy everyday piece, layered over a thin bodysuit or sweater. The simple eyelet pattern is fun to knit and suits both boys and girls equally well.
The South Vester is a light and warm garment in stockinette stitch with a lace pattern, perfect for both everyday wear and festive occasions. The vest is knitted from the bottom up in stockinette stitch on circular needles, with ribbing around the armholes and neck opening.
