This is Luddistrikk
We are two friends – Symra Joner and Maren Aabel – who met during medical school in Bergen - Norway, and bonded over a shared interest: knitting. When we started knitting in 2010, it was mostly Selbu mittens and traditional Norwegian sweaters. After both of us became aunts a few years later, we knitted a lot of baby clothes.
Now, as mothers of young children, we want to design our own knitting patterns based on our experiences as parents, focusing on the types of garments, fits, and details that work best. We aim to create knitwear with a good, roomy fit, often featuring stripes and lace knitting, and garments that are well-suited for playful babies and toddlers.
Luddi comes from the Bergen dialect word for clever, well thought out, pleasant, and fun – we hope you find our knitting patterns to be just that.

Work in progress
Tidi sweater
The Tidi Sweater is a perfect addition to any basic wardrobe. It features a comfy fit with slanted shoulders and picked-up stitches for the sleeves, and comes in sizes from 6 months to 8 years. The sweater will be test knitted during the autumn.

Work in progress
Smau series
In Bergen, there are many narrow alleyways and passages – just like the stripes in the Smau series. These garments can be knitted without a measuring tape, simply by counting full stripes. We’re planning to develop a jacket, onesie, balaclava, and dungarees – in different gauges!

Work in progress
SmĂĄpudden jacket
We’ve been thinking for a long time about creating a simple, quick-to-knit baby garment – on slightly larger needles than we usually use. The result will be a “go-to baby cardigan” you can whip up in no time as a gift for a newborn.
Frequently asked questions
How will I receive the pattern?
After payment, you’ll receive an order confirmation email with a link to download the pattern in PDF format. You can download the PDF up to 10 times, but it’s best to save it locally on your device. Note: If you can’t find the email in your inbox, remember to check your junk or spam folder.
Can I become a test knitter?
Yes, you can! Follow our Instagram account, where we post requests for test knitting when we need it. We prioritize those who have a model in the chosen size to ensure the measurements and fit are correct. Otherwise, you must follow the pattern to the letter and provide feedback if something is incorrect or can be improved. We look forward to hearing from you!
Which new patterns are you working on
We always have many ideas and patterns in development—some further along than others. Right now, we are working on a thick striped sweater (Vidden) and a lightweight, easy-knit sweater, as well as several new pieces in the Raindrop series, including a romper and a bodysuit. We’re also designing a thick striped overall (Ulriken).
Additionally, we aim to create a coming-home set and a onesie with a gauge of 21-22 sts per 10 cm. As for the Christmas dress, it’s such a time-consuming project that it likely won’t be ready until 2026.
Are the patterns available in multiple languages?
All patterns (except the Raindrop Balaclava) are available for purchase in English. Just select the language when adding the pattern to your cart. Eventually, we also plan to offer patterns in German and French
Why can’t I download the pattern anymore
Due to server capacity, the website has a maximum download limit of 10 times. We therefore recommend saving the PDF to your device (computer or phone) the first time you download it, so you only need to download it once. If you need help renewing your access, please send us a message or an email.
